Lumberton is located on the banks of the Lumber River.  The Lumber River is the only NC black water river to earn federal designation as a National Wild and Scenic River.  Enjoy the Riverwalk that includes a 3-mile looped walking/biking trail.  Come and see 200 year-old cypress trees, search for 2 million year-old seashells, watch for blue herons and beavers, take river tours, rent canoes and kayaks, fish and camp along the banks of our River.  The Lumber River State Park is an easy drive from Lumberton.  Hikers enjoy the nature trail which is a .75 mile loop.  Canoeing, fishing and camping are available.  The Park is an official site on the NC Birding Trail.  For more information, call 910-736-5573 or 736-9352.

FESTIVAL FUN – RUMBA ON THE LUMBER IN THE SPRING AND

CHEVY TO THE LEVEE IN THE FALL

 

The Rumba on the Lumber is a premier event in Lumberton scheduled the first weekend in March of every year.  The Robeson Road Runners (RRR) organize this event and 2010 will mark the 10th year of the festival.  Each year it gets bigger and better.  The Rumba on the Lumber is a Festival of Food, Music, Movement and the Arts that takes place in historic downtown Lumberton.  The festival includes a chili cooking contest, a 5K run/walk, a Family Fun Mile, lots of free kids activities, a Friday night Pasta Party with live entertainment, and an art exhibit and sale.  The Robeson Road Runners also organize the Chevy to the Levee Festival that is held in October of each year.  It is a family-friendly festival held at scenic Luther Britt Park.   It features a Stiletto Run where men and women sprint in costume in 3-inch heels to benefit a favorite charity.  The festival includes a Family Fun Mile and 5K run/walk.  It also features live music, food, arts, crafts, canoe and paddle boat rides, hayrides, boating and free activities for the kids.

 

  

 

 

NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE AND HISTORY

 

Step into another cultural dimension as you tour the Native American Resource Center featuring arts and crafts from tribal Lumbee Indian life.  Admission is free.
